Films are made available by screening of films in cinemas and also through mediums such as DVDs and CDs for millions of Indian people residing all over the world. Indian cinema industry consists of films produced in India in accordance with various cinematic cultures such as Hindi cinema, Telugu cinema, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjab etc. Mumbai Film Industry or the Hindi language film industry is the most popular branch of Indian cinema and is the largest in India. The Telugu film industry is India's second largest film industry after the Hindi film industry.
Telugu is the official language of Andhra Pradesh state of India which is one of the largest states of the country. In addition to the Andhra Pradesh, it is also used in several other states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa etc. As such, Telugu is the language with the third largest number of speakers in India.
Andhra Pradesh state has the highest number of cinema halls in India. Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state is said to be the largest film production facility in the world. Cinema production in Andhra Pradesh state is called the Telugu film industry.
In terms of number of movies made in a year the Telugu film industry is the largest in Indian cinema. A large number of TV channels are dedicated entirely to feature programs connected to Telugu movies. Hindi and Tamil film producers have remade many successful Telugu films in their languages.
Telugu Cinema has a number of film makers who have made important contributions to the film industry and also films which have received national recognition. Telugu Cinema also has a long list of actors and beautiful actresses who have contributed to the development of Telugu film industry.

Tamil film industry - The Kollywood is always the second largest film industry interms of Revenue and worldwide distribution. Telugu film industry comes third, not second.
Telugu Cinema is always behind Tamil Cinema interms of Revenue & Worldwide distribution
Interms of Number of movies produced every year, Tamil cinema was ahead till 2005. Only during the period between 2006 to 2009 Telugu Cinema released more no of movies. However, even during this period of 2006 to 2009, interms of Revenue and distribution it was Tamil cinema which was way ahead of Telugu Cinema
In 2010 and sofar in 2011 it is Tamil Cinema which has released more no of movies than Telugu Cinema. Needles to mention that the revenue and distribution of Tamil Cinema even during this period is much higher than Telugu Cinema
